What Are Domain Names?
A domain name is part of the address you type to go to a web site. For example, bionex.ca is a domain name. To go to bionex.ca, you type in "www.bionex.ca". The "www" tells the Internet that you want a web site (versus other, less well known, types of Internet destinations).
The domain name (e.g. bionex.ca) tells the Internet which web site you want to see.

The tricky part is to find a compelling domain name that hasn't already been taken. This is especially true for .com's. Usually it's best to make a list that includes a variety of extensions.

There are many things to consider when choosing a domain name. The most important thing is to have options, as the first name you come up with may well be taken. Here are some things to consider:
- .com's are very hard to get. Would a .ca or .net work?
- Words are often best. They're easier to remember than acronyms
- Short is sweet. Keeping the domain name short will also help people remember it
- Act fast. If you have found a great domain name, don't wait too long; it may get taken
